In his new role at TCNJ, Williams will oversee game and event operations, marketing, camps and clinics, facility rentals and serve as the liaison to sports information.
"I am extremely pleased to have Kelly Williams joining our leadership team in athletics," noted Dr. Sharon Beverly, assistant vice president for student affairs and executive director of athletics and recreation. "This position is vital to relationships with the college and the Ewing communities and we could not have a better fit than Williams, who is not only an alumnus, but also a product of Ewing."
Williams is in his seventh season as head coach of the men's basketball program at TCNJ. The Lions are currently 12-9 overall and 8-6 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. They are in fourth place in the league standings and in position to qualify for the NJAC post-season tournament. Williams will remain entirely focused on his squad through the season before stepping into his new role with athletic administration.
"I would like to thank Dr. Sharon Beverly for the opportunity to join the leadership team in athletics," said Williams. "I am excited about this new career path at The College of New Jersey. As an alumnus, this opportunity certainly has special significance to me both personally and professionally."
A graduate of The College of New Jersey (then Trenton State College), Williams played for the Lions from 1989 to 1993. He then served as an assistant coach at his alma mater for four seasons before being named head coach at Mercer County Community College in 1999. Williams led the Vikings for nine seasons and compiled a record of 154-100, while capturing six Garden State Athletic Conference championships. In 2000, he was honored as the Junior College, Division II/III Coaching Staff of the Year by the New Jersey Collegiate Basketball Coaches Association.
Williams also has strong ties to the Ewing community. He graduated from Ewing High School in 1988 and won a state championship with the Blue Devils basketball team. In 2008, Williams was inducted into the Ewing High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
