NJ College Post-Season Central 2017

The league tournaments for the NJ D-1 schools began this week in the Atlantic Sun and Northeast Conference. The MAAC starts Thursday.

The Big East, Big 10 and Ivy League tournaments are a week away. The Ivy League is having a post-season tournament for the first time

Post-season play for the NJ colleges opened this week with the NJAC and other Division 3 leagues.

This will be updated frequently as new information is available.

DIVISION 1

NCAA TOURNAMENT

Seton Hall plays Arkansas Friday afternoon at 1:30 in Greenville NC on TNT. With a win would play the North Carolina/Southern winner Sunday.

Princeton plays Notre Dame Thursday afternoon in Buffalo at 12:15 on CBS. With a win would play West Virginia/Bucknell winner Saturday

NATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Monmouth received a 4 seed and welcome Ole Miss to West Long Branch Tuesday. With a win the Hawks would play the Syracuse/UNCG winner.

COLLEGE INSIDER TOURNAMENT

St. Peter's opens CIT play Thursday at Albany.

ATLANTIC SUN TOURNAMENT

In their second year in the league, NJIT received the 7th seed and were eliminated Monday versus 2nd seeded Lipscomb in the quarterfinals.

NORTHEAST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Defending champion FDU got the 6th seed. They lost to Wagner Wednesday in the quarterfinals


MAAC TOURNAMENT

Monmouth clinched the #1 seed get a bye the first day. With their wins Sunday St. Peter's got the #2 seed and Rider the 6th.

Action tips off March 2nd with the championship Monday March 6. Teams 1-5 get byes into the second round. The entire tournament is held at the Times Union Center in Albany NY. Rider edged Manhattan Thursday night 69-68

Monmouth beat Niagara 84-59. St. Peter's trimmed Canisius 61-58.

In the quarterfinals Rider lost to Iona 88-70.

In the semis: Monmouth was upset by Siena 89-85. St. Peter's lost to Iona 73-65


BIG 10 TOURNAMENT

Rutgers got the last seed but pulled the upset over Ohio State in the first round. The Scarlet Knight fell Thursday to Northwestern 66-57. Action took place at the Verizon Center in Washington DC


BIG EAST TOURNAMENT

While finishing in a four way tie for 3rd, Seton Hall got the 5th seed based on tiebreakers. The Pirates topped Marquette 82-76 Thursday in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals

Lost a heartbreaker to Villanova on Friday in the semifinals.


IVY LEAGUE

This is the first year the Ivy League will have a post-season tournament with the top 4 teams competing. Games will be held March 11 and 12 at the Palestra in Philadelphia. Princeton finished undefeated in league play.

The Tigers edged 4th seeded Penn in a semifinal Saturday. They trimmed Yale Sunday for the NCAA bid.


DIVISION 2

Two of the four NJ D-2 schools made the cut for this event. In quarterfinal games Saturday, top seeded North Bloomfield topped 4th seeded South Sciences and 3rd seeded North Caldwell upset 2nd seeded South Wilmington against.

In the semis Saturday March 4 Bloomfield edged Caldwell 70-67.

In the championship Bloomfield downed Dominican 65-56 Sunday March 5 at Caldwell for the NCAA bid. Marcus Fleming scored 21 and was named MVP.

In first round NCAA Tournament play lost to St. Rose in the first round.

DIVISION 3

In 1st Round

Ramapo beat Misericordia 73-63. Josh Ford had 20. They play Keene State in the second round Saturday at Ramapo.

NJCU lost to Skidmore 75-67

In the second round Ramapo was edged by Keene State 92-91 in overtime.

NJAC

The top six teams made the tournament. top seeded Ramapo edged New Jersey City University 67-64 Friday night to earn the automatic NCAA bid. NJCU gained an at large bids. Ramapo opens up against Misericordia. NJ City plays Skidmore.

CSAC

Centenary got the 6th seed and lost in the quarterfinals to 3rd seeded Gwyned Mercy

EMPIRE 8

Stevens Tech got the second seed and beat Utica 79-71 Friday night in the semis. They lost to St. John Fisher Saturday afternoon for the title and automatic tournament bid. The Ducks finished a solid campaign at 19-8.

NEAC

In their first year of men's basketball, the College of NJ did not make the tournament.

LANDMARK

The top 4 teams made the playoffs, the NJ representative, Drew finished in 6th place.

MAC FREEDOM

FDU Florham finished 5th in the conference and did not make the league tournament.

JUCO REGION 19 TOURNAMENT

DIVISION 3

7 of the 12 teams competing were NJ schools. Action continues Sunday at Brookdale CC in the championship contest.

Camden CC upset Passaic and Brookdale ran past Northampton.

In the championship Brookdale edged Camden 72-69 and advanced to the national tournament

DIVISION 2

Essex got the top seed and beat Rowan College Burlington County for the championship and the spot in the national tournament.
