Spinella Gets Clearance

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University senior Stephen Spinella (Colts Neck, N.J./Apex Academy), who transferred from the University of South Carolina, has been granted an NCAA waiver, and is cleared to compete for the Hawks this season.
Spinella, who played two seasons for the Gamecocks in 2009-10 and 2010-11, competing in a total of 44 games over the two years, sat out last season while remaining enrolled at USC.

"It was real exciting hearing the news that I can play this year," stated Spinella, who has two years of eligibility remaining. "I am looking forward to the season, and having a great year with the team."
In response to what impact he can make in his first year with the Hawks, Spinella added, "I bring a lot of toughness to the team, and I am a guy that can guard many positions, so hopefully that will contribute real well to this team and I'm looking forward to it."
"Stephen has done all the right things since he has been here and it is great that this happened for him," commented head coach King Rice. "We are very excited to have him part of the program."
Monmouth opens its 2012-13 campaign on November 9 when the Hawks host Hofstra in the MAC at 7:00 p.m.
