Murphy Cleared to Play

LIU Brooklyn men's basketball forward Khalil Murphy, who transferred to LIU from the University of San Francisco this past summer, will be eligible to compete for the Blackbirds when the 2012-13 season opens on Nov. 9.
Murphy received a residence waiver from the NCAA that grants him immediate eligibility, allowing him to bypass the one-year wait period traditionally required of transfers in NCAA Division I college basketball.

"We are excited to have Khalil eligible to compete for us this season," head men's basketball coach Jack Perri said. "His versatility and skill level will help provide valuable depth to our frontcourt."
A native of Willingboro, N.J., Murphy spent two seasons at USF and played in 18 contests for the Dons last season. The 6-8 forward helped San Francisco to 20 victories in 2011-12 and an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational postseason tournament.
