Former NJ Star Passes Away
Former Marist High School star James Felton passed away yesterday. The talented big man was ranked as the #2 prospect in the state in the May 1997 NJ Hoops Newsletter. He was selected to NJ Hoops All Rebounder and All Shotblocker Teams that season. Felton was 6-foot-9 athletic and capable of scoring from the perimeter or scoring in the post.

The college career for Felton was one of ups and downs as he never stayed in one place long enough to take advantage of his size and skills.
He committed to St. John's to play for Coach Fran Fraschilla. Felton only played in six games for St. John's before being dismissed for a violation of team policy. Felton averaged 2.2 ppg, 3.3 bpg in 14 mpg for St. John's. He then transferred to Florida State and later St. Peter's but did not play at either place or last there very long. He resurfaced at FDU and broke his foot in the 2000-01 season. He played in the last seven games of that season averaging 13.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg. The following season he appeared in 16 games averaging 21.1 ppg and 7.6 rpg.
