Centenary Names New Head Coach

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 14, 2012) - The Centenary College Athletic Department announced the hiring of Brendan Twomey as the new men's basketball head coach on Friday. Twomey joins the Cyclones after a four-year coaching career at Steven's Institute of Technology where he served as the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach.
Centenary College Athletic Director Billie Jo Blackwell said this about the new coach: "We are very excited to welcome Brendan Twomey as our new men's basketball coach. His successful playing experience includes many accolades. Brendan's passion for the game and positive outlook is a blueprint designed to build a winning tradition for our men's basketball program. We look forward to his contributions to the Cyclone community!"

During his time at Stevens, Twomey helped guide the team to a 73-37overall record including a 2011 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship while developing nine All-Conference and three All-Region student-athletes. As Associate Head Coach, Twomey was responsible for recruiting, practice planning, game preparation, and individual skill development while also serving as a building supervisor, physical education instructor, and intramural director along the way.
As the recruiting coordinator, Twomey helped bring in the team's leading scorer, Sheldon Jones, a Second-Team All-Conference selection in his sophomore year and First-Team All-Conference selection his junior year. This past season, Twomey helped lead Stevens to a 20-8 overall record and an ECAC semi-final appearance. During the 2010-11 season, Twomey and his staff were named the Empire 8 Conference Staff of the year and was given the Schoenfeld Award in 2008-09, given by N.J. officials for sportsmanship in the state of N.J.
Prior to working at Stevens, Twomey served as the Game Scout Video Coordinator for the NBA, analyzing and editing game film for the NBA, NBDL, and WNBA and was selected as one of two scouts to analyze the FIBA America's Championships for the United States men's basketball team.
Twomey also has experience working as the acting Sports Information Director and Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics for Mount Saint Mary College where he received a degree in business administration in 2004.
As a player, Twomey played professionally for Merry Monk Ballina and the Limerick Lions in the Irish Super League, as well as the Carolina Thunder in the American Basketball Association. During his time playing for Mount Saint Mary College, Twomey was named a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III Regional All-Star, Division III News All-American Honorable Mention honoree, Skyline Conference Player of the Year, and two-time ECAC and Metro Writers Basketball Association selection.
Serving as a captain his junior and senior seasons, Twomey became the All-Time leading scorer at Mount Saint Mary College while finishing fifth All-Time in Division III in three pointers made (362) and 12th All-Time in three-pointers per game (3.32).
Twomey and the rest of the Cyclones will look to open the season with the second-annual Comfort Inn Holiday Classic on November 16th with the first game slated to tip-off at 6:00pm.
