Billmeier Lands New Position

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball program introduced new assistant coach Grant Billmeier to the coaching staff, Head Coach Greg Herenda announced Tuesday.

"Grant is going to be a tremendous addition to our program here at Fairleigh Dickinson University," Herenda said. "He is a tireless worker and will be a tremendous role model for all our student-athletes. Our post players will benefit so much from him. Grant is a worker and made himself into a Big East post player who our bigs will learn volumes from."

Billmeier comes from Seton Hall, where he served as the Director of Basketball Operations. His primarily roles included serving academics with the Pirates, being responsible for daily and monthly scheduling that included practice times, lifting schedules and team meals. More importantly, he coordinated with local hospitals, foundations and soup kitchens to bring members of the Seton Hall team to help out in the community.

"I am extremely happy about joining Coach Herenda's staff," Billmeier said. "He has a great vision and plan for where he wants the program to go. I've spent the last four years learning from a great coach in Kevin Willard and learned from highly-regarded high school coach Kevin Boyle at an early age, and I feel as though I can bring a tremendous passion and energy to Stratis Arena."

Billmeier is also a 2007 graduate of Seton Hall and was the Pirates' captain during his junior and senior seasons. He also participated in two NCAA Tournaments, losing to Wichita State in 2006, after defeating Arizona and bowing out to Duke in 2004. He was also a recipient of both the Robin Cunningham and Richie Regan awards given out at men's basketball team banquets during his collegiate career.

The former McDonald's All-American nominee led his former high school alma mater St. Patrick's to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions and finished first in all media outlets throughout the Garden State.

Billmeier is the co-founder of the Billmeier and Nardi Skills Camp that was started in 2008 in his hometown of Pennington, N.J. along with former Villanova star guard and high school teammate Mike Nardi. He also was an assistant coach at St. Patrick's and produced a professional basketball career with stops in Germany and Portugal.

Coming out of St. Patrick's High School, Billmeier was ranked among NJ Hoops top 15 players in the ultra strong Class of 2003.
