Passaic County Tournament Wrap/All Tournament Team

The 44th annual Passaic County Tournament wrapped up Saturday March 1. This year, the top four seeds were given byes into the quarterfinals.


Top seeded Paterson Eastside is a heavy favorite and it would be a big surprise if they were knocked off.


Action tipped off Saturday February 1, with four preliminary round games. 9th seeded Passaic Tech ran past 16th seeded Eastern Christian 82-49. 6-foot Sr. Vic Mitchell hit for 12. 12th seeded Lakeland ousted 13th seeded Manchester 66-54 as 6-foot-8 Sr. Petko Ljusic tallied 20. 14th seeded Passaic edged 11th seeded Clifton 44-43. So. Jeremy Green notched 13. 10th seeded Pompton Lakes beat 15th seeded Hawthorne 56-42. 6-foot Jr. Jonathan Tobal went for 21.


Action continued Saturday February 8. 8th seeded Wayne Valley edged Passaic Tech 61-59. 6-foot-3 Sr. Liam Connors led with 14. 5th seeded Wayne Hills ousted Lakeland 64-50. 5-foot-10 Sr. Scott Wills hit for 21. 6th seeded West Milford trimmed Passaic 65-62. 6-foot-1 Jr. Tom Pegel tallied 19. 7th seeded Passaic Valley topped Pompton Lakes 56-43. 6-foot-4 Sr. Stefan Minic scored 20 with 4 treys.


The quarterfinals were held Saturday February 15, 2014. Top seeded Paterson Eastside ousted Wayne Valley 63-42. 5-foot-4 Fr. Nhazir Smith led with 13. 4th seeded DePaul dropped Wayne Hills 74-66 as 6-foot-3 Sr. Juwan Carter scored 24. 3rd seeded Hawthorne Christian ousted West Milford 73-59. 6-foot-8 Sr. Alex Thomas hit for 21. 2nd seeded Paterson Kennedy thwarted Passaic Valley 67-56 with 5-foot-10 So. Alphonso Gee scoring 17.


The semifinals were held February 22, 2014 at Paterson Kennedy High School. Paterson Eastside dropped Depaul 50-44 as 6-foot-7 Jr. Shakur Juiston controlled the paint with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. 6-foot Jr. Spencer Smith had 15 off the bench for Depaul. Kennedy edged Hawthorne Christian 38-36 on a three at the buzzer from Gee. He finished with 16, 5 treys and two three's in the last 9 seconds. Thomas was superb for HCA with 15 points, 19 rebounds, 10 blocks and 6 assists.


The championship was held Saturday March 1, 2014 at Wayne Valley High School. Paterson Eastside beat Paterson Kennedy 59-49 as Johnson scored 18. Gee led Kennedy with 16.
