NBPA Camp: What to watch

MORE: Around the Nation | The Recruit Scoop

One of the summer's most important events tips off at the University of Virginia on Thursday when the 2012 NBPA Top 100 Camp begins. The NBPA Camp annually brings together the nation's top players - regardless of shoe company affiliation - in Charlottesville for one of the most competitive events of the grassroots circuit. As usual, Rivals.com will be on hand and there is no shortage of story lines to follow in Virginia.

How will the Harrison twins respond?

A pair of top five players in the class of 2013, neither Andrew Harrison nor Aaron Harrison were originally planning to be in Charlottesville.

The 6-foot-5 twins from Ft. Bend (Texas) Travis in the Houston area figured they would be traveling abroad with USA Basketball's 18 and under national team. Surprisingly, though, the duo was cut from the team and the brothers now find themselves in Charlottesville with chips on their shoulders.

It's not often that the nation's top players get cut from any team, so it will be interesting to see how the five-star duo reacts to some adversity. Will the Harrison brothers be rattled? Will they be looking to prove a point? Whatever happens, they will likely be taking out the USA Basketball snub on the rest of the guards in attendance.

What's up with Roberson?

Currently ranked No. 34 nationally in the class of 2013 Rivals150, 6-foot-7 forward Tyler Roberson is an athletic and talented prospect. However, the question is: What position is the Roselle (N.J.) Catholic prospect suited for on the college level?

A lengthy forward who has been filling out physically over the last year, the original thought was that Roberson would be a big wing. But, as he's gotten bigger and stronger he's looked like a more viable option as a power or combo forward.

Regardless of what position he's destined to play on the next level, Rivals.com will look forward to getting a fresh evaluation of the New Jersey star and catching up on his recruitment.

Is Vaughn ready to take the leap?

Over Memorial Day weekend, 6-foot-5 shooting guard Rashad Vaughn had a breakout showing at Under Armour's Are You From Here classic. Most likely, it was his performance at that event that secured his invitation to the NBPA Camp.

Already ranked No. 26 in the class of 2014, it's time to see if the four-star prospect from Minneapolis (Minn.) Robbinsdale Cooper is ready to take the next step. Vaughn has the size, shooting range, athleticism and scoring instincts to make a move up the rankings in his class, and his performance at the NBPA Camp could go a long way toward determining whether he remains a high four-star prospect or moves into the five-star range.

Who else will emerge at NBPA?

While the majority of the NBPA Camp roster is comprised of well-known four- and five-star prospects, there are a few outliers. Who will step up and take their game to the next level?

Could it be Mississippi big man Dwight Coleby who seizes the moment? The 6-foot-9 big man from Piney Woods is said to be an athlete with strength and skill who is ready to have a breakout performance.

If not Coleby, maybe Sterling Brown is the guy who takes a step forward. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is the younger brother of NBA wing Shannon Brown and coming off of a monster junior year at Maywood (Ill.) Proviso East. Through the spring events, Brown has been knocking on the door of the 2013 Rivals150 and NBPA gives him the perfect venue to knock that door down.

What about 6-foot-6 wing Peter Jok from West Des Moines (Iowa) Valley? Before entering high school, Jok was touted by some in Iowa as a player who would end up better than Harrison Barnes. After showing some early promise as a scorer, Jok has had a run of injuries and has largely performed out of the national spotlight so NBPA could be a big venue for him.
