Early signing period offers few mysteries

MORE: Meyer's mailbag

What a difference a year makes. This time last year, 11 prospects out of the top 25 had not committed to a school with a couple of days left before the early signing period started.

This year all but four prospects in the top 25 is committed to a school and expected to sign during the early period, which begins Wednesday.

Here is a breakdown on the four uncommitted five-star prospects and a handful of uncommitted four-star prospects.

The uncommitted
No. 9 DeAndre Daniels 6-8/190, small forward
Daniels highlights
School: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
The buzz: Daniels is expected to bypass the early signing period and wait until the spring. A former Texas commitment, Daniels is still being recruited by the Longhorns. Not a lot of information is coming out of Daniels' camp, but Florida, N.C. State, Tennessee and Kansas are other schools reportedly involved with Daniels.

No. 17 Ben McLemore 6-5/185, shooting guard
McLemore highlights
School: Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy
The buzz: Like Daniels, McLemore made a move from his hometown (St. Louis). Kansas and Missouri are the two schools under consideration, and McLemore is expected to sign in the early period. Kansas is the favorite to get his signature.

No. 19 Norvel Pelle 6-8/200, center
School: Compton (Calif.) Price
The buzz: Perhaps the most athletic post player in the 2011 class, Pelle is narrowing his focus on St. John's and Washington. Last weekend he visited St. John's and this weekend he will travel to Washington. St. John's has momentum on its side, but whether or not Pelle will sign early is still up in the air.

No. 20 Cody Zeller 6-10/210, power forward
Zeller highlights
School: Washington (Ind.)
The buzz: Zeller, who is coming off a productive summer travel circuit, has been focused on Butler, Indiana and North Carolina for a while. Although his brother Tyler Zeller plays for North Carolina and the Tar Heels were the early favorite, most prognosticators following his recruitment have him pegged to sign during the early period with Indiana.

No. 26 Adjehi Baru 6-9/220, center
Baru highlights
School: Richmond (Va.) The Steward School
The buzz: It is unclear at this point whether or not Baru will sign during the early period. Maryland has been prominent in his recruitment and is considered a leader. The College of Charleston, North Carolina and Virginia Tech are also involved.

No. 34 Trevor Lacey 6-3/190, shooting guard
School: Huntsville (Ala.) Butler
The buzz: Lacey is on record saying he will wait till the spring to sign. Presently he has a top five of Alabama, Auburn, Connecticut, Kansas and Kentucky.
