Carson hot in Vegas

LAS VEGAS- The second half of the July evaluation period got underway on Thursday with both the Fab 48 and the Adidas Super 64. One of the more impressive prospects during the day was dynamic scoring guard Jahii Carson.

Jahii Carson (The Magic)- He might be a sub-6-footer, but Carson has an explosive burst off the dribble and has a deadly shooting stroke on the move. Basically his prowess with the basketball and his determined attitude give him on of the biggest presence on the court. Against a furious comeback by the Dallas Mustangs, Carson saved the day by splitting two defenders and scoring a lay up over LeBryan Nash to win the game at the buzzer. Carson led all scorers in that game with 29 points.

North Carolina was in the gym watching Carson, and Pittsburgh is also a new school recruiting him. Neither school has offered, but offers are in from UCLA, USC, Butler, Marquette, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State, St. John's and Arizona State according to Carson. He also noted that his list is getting bigger rather than smaller at this point.

Isaiah Austin (The Magic)- There might not be a more unique prospect on the circuit than Austin. At 7-feet and with an enormous wing span, Austin is comfortable handling the basketball and shoots it with touch. He has an advanced feel for the game and could make a future living on his shot blocking ability alone. His body does need to bulk up, and he needs to play with more consistent energy. This is the case, however, with most young 7-footers. Against the Mustangs, Austin scored 16 points.

He listed offers from UConn, Baylor, Texas and Arizona, saying that UConn, Baylor and Arizona are recruiting him the hardest. Duke, North Carolina, Georgetown, Arizona State, UCLA, West Virginia and Syracuse are also recruiting him.

LeBryan Nash (Dallas Mustangs)- This elite wing prospect went without a field goal in the first half against The Magic, but he ignited the Mustangs second half comeback with his explosive play on the low block. There simply are not many prospects who can handle a determined Nash around the basket. He finished with 18 points.

Quinn Cook (DC Assault)- There is a reassuring quality to the composed way he handles the basketball. Cook is also one of the better long range and midrange shooters off the dribble in the class. He put up big scoring numbers Thursday.

MORE SCHOOL LISTS

C.J. Blackwell is likely to move back to Los Angeles where he is originally from and attend Taft High School. He is ready to end his recruitment and is serious about UNLV. The Rebels haven't offered yet, but Blackwell does claim offers from Purdue, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin. He is also interested in Arizona State and Illinois.

Wesley Saunders is being grossly under recruited at this point. The 6-foot-6 point forward type has offers from Penn, Boise State, San Jose State and Loyola Marymount and strong interest from Stanford, Arizona and USC.

Charles Mitchell is wide open in his recruitment and has a long list of offers, but he did note that West Virginia, Clemson, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and North Carolina State are recruiting him the hardest.

Kyle Anderson is listing offers from Villanova, Miami, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Xavier, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Georgia Tech and Louisville.

Myles Davis also has a long list of offers, including St. Joe's, Fordham, Rutgers, Penn State, Virginia, Marquette, Providence, West Virginia, Boston College, DePaul and Western Kentucky.
