September 20, 2013We drove up to Paterson Wednesday for an outstanding doubleheader in the Fall Ball League. We saw four of the top teams in the state battle.
In the first game the Grey Bees (St. Benedict's) pulled away in the second half to beat Reebok's Finest (St. Anthony) 52-31. Reebok's Finest had a 19-18 halftime lead. 6-foot-4 Jr. Eli Cain scored 13 to lead the balanced attack for the winners. 6-foot-1 Sr. Tarin Smith tallied for 11 Reebok's Finest.
In the second contest. Team Roselle (Roselle Catholic) responded in the second half for a comeback win over Somerset's Stars (Gill St. Bernards) 41-39. 6-foot-3 Jr. Isaiah Briscoe made a beautiful pass off penetration in the final seconds to 6-foot-8 Jr. Chris Silva who dunked the ball at the buzzer for the win. Briscoe finished with 19, including 14 of Roselle's first 17 points. 6-foot-5 So. Tyus Battle tallied 12 for Somerset.
In the Gym
Coaches from Caldwell, Felician and Rutgers Newark were on hand recruiting.
Scouts/writers Tom Konchalski (HSBI), Adam Zagoria (Zagsblog) and Orlando Cameron (Garden State Hoops) were on hand.
Former St. Anthony and current UCLA star Kyle Anderson (NJ Hoops #1 Class of 2012) and former Paterson Eastside and Norfolk State star Tony Murphy (NJ Hoops #21 Class of 2004) were in the building showing support for their old teams.
