February 28, 2013The Region 19 Junior College semifinals in Division 2 and 3 are being held today at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.
In the first D-3 semi, Northampton PA came back to defeat Union County College 71-66. The shorthanded Union team played the last :24 seconds with only four players after two players fouled out and another playe was injured in an accident yesterday. Northampton was up 1 at the time.
6-foot So. Dontae Davis led the winners with 22, 17 in the second half. 6-foot-4 So. Zach O'Brien tallied 21 for Union CC.
In the second game in a Division 2 semi, top seeded Essex CC held off Morris CC 68-57 in an all NJ affair. 6-foot-1 Fr. Dion Rogers paced the balanced attack with 16. 5-foot-10 So. Sir Gregory Powell notched 14 for Morris.
In the 3rd game in the second D-2 semi, Mercer CC cruised past Lackawanna PA JC 91-55. 6-foot-10 Chestnut Hill bound So. Filip Sekulic dropped in 26 with 3 treys. 5-foot-10 Fr. Charles Cooley scored 13 for Lackawanna.
In the finale, in a D-3 semi, the home Brookdale CC ousted Camden CC 76-56. 6-foot-4 Fr. Joe Nickerson led the winners with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 6-foot Fr. Laquan Coaxum and 6-foot-3 Fr. James Cooper divided 22 for Camden.
The winners play Saturday for the right to go to the national tournament.
