On Friday we drove up to the Prudential Center in Newark for the Newark National Invitational.

The event feature three of the top 5 teams in the state.

In an exciting first game with two teams with high pre-season hopes, Gill St. Bernards upset #3 Roselle Catholic 6-foot-2 Northwestern bound Sr. Jaren Sina paced the effort with 22 points and 10 assists. He had a steal and 4 ft's in final 22 seconds. 6-foot-8 Syracuse bound Sr. Tyler Roberson notched 21 points and 17 rebounds before fouling out with :22 left.

In the second game St. Peter's Prep ran past Plainfield 49-26. Prep turned over Plainfield and went up 37-10 at the half. 6-foot Jr. Austin White led with 15 points. Prep outrebounded Plainfield 38-22. Denzell Johnson had 8 for Plainfield.

In the marquee matchup #1 St. Anthony fell to #2 St. Benedict's 47-38. 6-foot-2 Syracuse bound Sr. Tyler Ennis led the balanced attack with 14. 6-foot-3 Oregon State bound Sr. Hallice Cooke had 12, 10 in the first half for St. Anthony's.

St. Ben's defense was the difference. They forced St. Anthony's into 20 turnovers and limited them to 27% shooting.

The loss breaks St. Anthony's 83 game winning streak. A good crowd of 4.349 was on hand for all the action.
