On Sunday morning we drove up to Bergen Catholic High School for opening round action in the 57th annual Bergen Jamboree.

In the first game 16th seeded Mahwah held off 17th seeded Dwight Englewood 51-48. Trailing 19-4 after one period Dwight Englewood kept clawing back and took it to the wire. 6-foot-3 Sr. Mike Leniw led the effort with 20 points. 6-foot-3 Sr. Mike Mourkakos headed the balanced Dwight Englewwod attack with 15.

In the second game 20th seeded St. Mary's Rutherford trimmed 13th seeded Waldwick 53-49 in a thriller. St. Mary's trailed most of the way but a 16-9 fourth quarter advantage was the difference. 6-foot-3 Sr. Josh Davis notched 16 points and 7 blocks for the winners. He scored 8 in the decisive final quarter. 5-foot-7 Jr. Doug Palmadessa had 25 with 3 3's for Waldwick.

In the last game 15th seeded Bergen Catholic ousted 18th seeded Elmwood Park 65-51 as 6-foot-4 Sr. PJ Reed scored 20. 6-foot-3 Jr. Ve'Shawn Polite notched 18 for Elmwood Park.
